PUNCH SWIMS IN WITH £167,000 INVESTMENT IN WHITBY PUB
National pub operator Punch has announced a £167,000 investment in The Dolphin.
The Bridge Street pub will reopen on Wednesday 29 June at 6pm following a major refurbishment which will transform The Dolphin into a stylish and welcoming venue for local people, shoppers and tourists.
The Dolphin is being fully redecorated in a contemporary style, Its kitchen is being upgraded, the toilets refurbished and the exterior of the pub significantly improved with new planters and hanging baskets, new signage and lighting.
The new publican is local businessman Richard Nattriss. Commenting on the investment he said: “The Dolphin is a very popular cask ale bar, sports bar and grill, and we believe that this investment will restore the pub to its rightful place at the heart of Whitby.
“Just in time for the summer season, our beer garden will be transformed with planters and hanging baskets. And the improvements to our kitchen will mean that we can upgrade our menu to include Whitby fish and chips, handmade burgers and pasta dishes, pizzas and chargrilled steaks as well as other pub favourites and a carvery every Sunday.”
The Dolphin, situated on the riverside next to the swing bridge, is well known for its range of six cask ales – including a choice from Whitby Brewery – and 28 craft gins as well as offering overnight accommodation in its six letting rooms. It will feature Sky and BT Sports plus Racing UK for the first time and will host live music every Friday and Saturday night.
Punch area operations manager Anthony Lowther-Knowles said: “This investment, together with Richard’s experience and enthusiasm, will be the making of The Dolphin. It is in a great location and I am sure it will become a firm favourite with local people and visitors to Whitby.
